Who She Be

My name is Symone Imani. No, I haven’t gotten to that point where I can comfortably write a bio in 3rd person. Maybe one day I’ll get there. Until then, we’re keeping it casual.

I’m a Black(ity Black) 20 somethin’ year old who enjoys curling up with a blank page and marking it up with my thoughts. Writing, for me, is a tool used to better understand and document the world.

I am a cultural mutt. I’ve lived in almost every corner of the US. In situations where, “repping your city” is necessary, you’ll probably find me awkwardly smiling, unsure of what to claim.

As a black woman, who has existed in many different spaces, I’ve been the engineer of several different strings of code switching. The beauty in this, is that it is fairly easy to fall into interesting conversations with different types of people. I love meeting new people but you’ll often find me on the listening end of a conversation.

I live in my mind–and through this blog, I hope I can make you feel at home.
